BS Compliant Refuge Systems
Ceaton provide and maintain disabled refuge systems which meet the requirement of BS 5839 Part 9:2013. Current building regulations insist all new buildings (non-domestic premises) with more than one storey provide refuge areas. A refuge area is a safe place in which a person, who is unable to evacuate the building can wait for help to arrive. Depending on the fire risk assessment many older buildings require refuge areas.
A Refuge System consists of two-way communication between the Refuge Area and a point accessible by the Fire & Rescue services. This two-way communication provides reassurance that help is on the way and assists the fire and rescue services.
Many refuge systems can also incorporate disabled toilet alarms, ensuring you meet the requirement of BS 8300 emergency assistance alarms.
